Biography

I came into this world in 1934 at the Allentown Hospital, Allentown PA, the first of my parents' three children. We made it through the Great Depression, with me starting in First Grade in 1940. I had already absorbed my father's interest in photography and soon acquired my own camera. By age 12 I had my own darkroom and by High School was a photographer for the school newspaper. I had already decided that this was to be my life's work.
My association with Richard Avedon began in 1952 and lasted until 1965, with time out for the mandatory military service. In 1965 I and a partner opened our own studio in New York, and in 1979 began a second career as a travel writer. All of this is covered in my personal blog, www.lifeslittleadventures.typepad.com.
